Psoriasis Treatment

In Western medicine, the root cause of Psoriasis is uncertain with 2 different theories which are as follows:

  1. Excessive growth and production of skin cells
  2. Problems relating to the immune system's production of T cells which subsequently damage skin cells.

In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) as with western medicine there are several types of psoriasis and they have differing causes.

For example:
If the affected area is itchy and red the cause is usually wind and heat.
If the skin has thick and purplish patches the cause is likely to be due to blood stasis.
Heat and damp are indicated by red weeping patches of skin.
If patient gets tired easily and the patches on the skin are thick, pale and dry this is often due to a deficiency of blood and Qi.

What does Psoriasis treatment involve?

Having determined the particular the psoriasis type, Dr Hui will prescribe a course of selected and hand-mixed Chinese herbs.

What about my normal medication?

At our Chester and Greater Manchester treatment centres we strongly advise all our patients to keep their GPs fully informed of their condition/treatment and we frequently work with GPs to the benefit of our patients. Generally speaking, the herbal medications will not interfere with your other western medication, but you should always seek advice.

How long does a course of treatment last?

Treatment times for all condition varies enormously and will ultimately depend upon a range of factors.

These include:
The severity of the condition,
The length of time a patient has suffered from the condition,
The patient's response to their individually tailored prescription herbs.
